This is a story that I covered while I was at Redondo Beach Patch, and I continued to cover it via my own website at myredondo.com after I was laid off. When the story first broke, my colleague John Schreiber and I were the first reporters at the scene, joined later by Schreiber’s then-fiance, who worked for a competing paper.
